Hiroshima Airport to Hiroshima City and Miyajima: Bus, Train, Taxi and Rental Car (2026)
Quick answer: Hiroshima Airport is about 50 km east of the city, in the hills. The easiest way into town is the airport limousine bus to Hiroshima Station (about 50 minutes, ¥1,500), which runs every 10–20 minutes and takes IC cards and contactless credit cards. For Miyajima, take the bus to Hiroshima Station and then JR to Miyajimaguchi (about 27 minutes), or book the shared taxi that goes direct. If you’re touring by car, pick up a rental car at the airport.
My family is from Hiroshima, and I’ve used the airport limousine bus into the city — to both Hiroshima Station and the Bus Center — and I’ve also driven to and from the airport. Here are all the options, with 2026 fares.

Limousine bus to Hiroshima Station
This is what I’d recommend for most visitors, and what I’ve used myself.
- From: bus stop 2 outside arrivals.
- To: Hiroshima Station, Shinkansen (north) exit.
- Time: about 50 minutes (longer in traffic).
- Fare: ¥1,500 for adults, ¥750 for children.
- Frequency: every 10–20 minutes, roughly 7:20 to 21:55 from the airport.
- Payment: IC cards (ICOCA, Suica and others), contactless credit or debit cards, or app tickets. Free Wi-Fi on board.
From Hiroshima Station you can take a streetcar into town — see the Hiroshima Streetcar Guide.
Limousine bus to Hiroshima Bus Center
If your hotel is in the city centre (Hondori, Hatchobori, the Peace Park area), this bus is handier. It goes to the Hiroshima Bus Center on the 3rd floor of the Sogo department store, about 55 minutes, also ¥1,500. It leaves from bus stop 1. I’ve used this one too.

Getting to Miyajima from the airport
There’s no direct bus to Miyajima. You have two choices:
- Bus + train: limousine bus to Hiroshima Station (about 50 minutes), then the JR Sanyo Line to Miyajimaguchi (about 27 minutes, ¥420), then the ferry. Allow about 2 hours in total.
- Shared taxi: a shared airport taxi runs direct to Miyajimaguchi, about 1 hour, around ¥4,000 per person. It has about six departures a day and must be booked at least 30 minutes ahead (tel. 082-208-5750).

Renting a car at the airport
If you’re touring Hiroshima, the islands or Shikoku by car, the airport is a convenient place to pick one up. I’ve driven to and from the airport myself.
- The rental counters are at “RENT-A-Car.Port”, about 3 minutes’ walk across the 2nd-floor pedestrian bridge from the terminal.
- Companies include Orix, Times, Toyota, Nissan, Nippon and Mazda. Most are open 8:00–20:00.
- Book ahead, and bring your International Driving Permit (or an official Japanese translation of your licence, depending on your country).

Other options
- Saijo: a bus goes to JR Saijo Station in about 23 minutes (¥700) — handy for the sake breweries. See Saijo Sake Brewery Walk.
- Bus + JR via Shiraichi: a local bus to JR Shiraichi Station (about 15 minutes, ¥490), then JR to Hiroshima (about 40 minutes). Cheaper, but involves a change. I haven’t used this route myself.
- Taxi: expensive — roughly ¥13,000–16,000 to Hiroshima Station. Fixed-fare taxis can be booked in advance.
The airport in 2026
- The terminal is being renovated. The second phase opens on 1 November 2026 (larger international security area, combined arrivals lobby), and the full grand opening is planned for March 2027. Expect some changes in layout.
- International flights this winter include Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul and Hanoi.
